SYNPOSIS
Maddie doesn't believe in luck. She's all about hard work and planning ahead. But one night, on a whim, she buys a lottery ticket. And then, to her astonishment - She wins!

In a flash, Maddie's life is unrecognizable...
No more stressing about college scholarships. Suddenly, she's talking about renting a yacht. And being in the spotlight at school is fun... until rumors start flying, and random people ask her for loans. Now, Maddie isn't sure who she can trust.

Except for Seth Nguyen, her funny, charming coworker at the local zoo. Seth doesn't seem aware of Maddie's big news. And, for some reason, she doesn't want to tell him. But what will happen if he learns her secret?

PERSONAL REVIEW
This was a fun and easy book, and exactly what I need every once in a while to break up some of the heavier reads. It was my first Kasie West book, but I’ll be getting a few others for the days when I just want to read something light.

Why I Liked It:
  • It’s Light and Doesn’t Take Itself Too Seriously: I really like when authors know that they are writing a light and fun novel and don’t try to push it beyond that. It’s all about knowing you’re audience, and in this case, the audience just wants a fun romance that they can be assured has a happy ending. And I’m totally fine with that. I liked reading about Maddie finding her way and figuring out both herself and her relationships. It’s nice to read something sometimes where everything has an easy answer.

  • It’s a Cute and Fun Concept: Is it ok to use the word “cute” in a book review? Because overall, I think that it’s a good word for this book. And who doesn’t wish about wining the lottery? I immediately started thinking about how I would spend fifty million dollars if I won (ok, just over thirty million after taxes) and I’m hoping that I would be smart about it. It’s fun to see how Maddie starts off pretty level-headed about it all (buying out IKEA? Love it.) and then quickly falls into the habit that money can buy happiness for others.

  • The Characters Are Surprisingly Well-Rounded: While I won’t pretend that these are the most complex and deep characters in novel history, I will say that I really liked Maddie and Seth and though that they, and the other characters, were really well crafted (I hope that doesn’t sound too know-it-all-y). I liked getting to know them and wish I was as confident as they were in high school. It was fun reading about them.

My only complaint is that the ending was way too abrupt. It felt like we were watching an old movie where it ends immediately after the main characters finally kiss (or if it’s a really old movie, it ends right before they finally kiss ;D). Everything was resolved, but I like getting to read about the characters relationship at least a bit before it ends, just so that we finally get to see what we were all waiting for. So while the ending was a bit disappointing, this was a fun read and a great way to break up some of the darker or more intense series that usually fill my reading list.

FINAL RATING: 3.5/5
